PORT ROYALE SUMMER 2022 NEWSLETTER

8/12/2022
Port Royale: Summer 2022

Hello Neighbors!
It has been a while since my last newsletter. Apparently waiting for the impact of Covid to fade is a bad communication strategy. As we continue to adjust to this new normal, let me fill you in on a few things going on around PR and the Cays.

New Proposal for Development on Grand Caribe Isle
I hope you all received (and read!) our General Manager’s notice regarding another attempt to develop our beloved Grand Caribe Isle. This time the proposal submitted to the Port of San Diego is for a large RV park/motel development situated where the boatyard storage currently resides. As proposed, the plans also take part of the south park for development and restructure the beach. As you can imagine, the environmental impact alone would be disastrous. Can you also imagine the negative impact on the quality of life for Cays residents?

Your CCHOA Board of Directors approved a letter stating opposition to the proposed project at the monthly meeting held on August 4, 2022. The letter has been sent to the Port Commissioners and Coronado City Council and Staff. A copy of the letter and enclosures can be found on the CCHOA website for your information. Additionally, the Coronado Cays Yacht Club also submitted a letter opposing the proposed RV-Resort.

Now it is your turn to make some noise! It is critically important that we each submit a letter to the San Diego Port Commissioners and the Coronado City Council stating your position.

The port is scheduled to hear community comments at the next meeting of the Port Commissioners, which will be held on September 13th at 1pm at the Don L. Nay Port Administration Boardroom located at 3165 Pacific Highway, San Diego. Please attend in person!

Now, onto the good news…
Crossman, our new landscaping company, started July 1. I hope you have already noticed an improvement and I have high hopes that they will maintain their quality efforts. Please be patient as they work hard to catch up from the situation caused by a decline in service from Park West. Once they have that in hand, we will see what the budget allows for refreshing most areas. To that end, I’m looking for a volunteer or two to help me plan and maintain our village landscaping. Please let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Clubhouse:
You may remember that the clubhouse interior was recently renovated. This year we were able to add air conditioning and refresh the pool area. Additionally, we installed a new grill, and are working to freshen up the entire bbq area. Which leads me to…. Let’s get together! To that end, I’m looking for a few volunteers to help form a “social” committee. Please let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Pool:
Hey all, I hate to be a bad guy here, but I need your help keeping our pool clean and working. This summer has seen many groups utilizing the pool area. Which is great, however, requires a gentle reminder that no food is allowed in or around the pool/spa area (pizza at the bottom of the pool? Yuck). Balloons, at no time, are allowed because the rubber fragments left behind muck up the systems. If pumps go out, we don’t have budget to replace them and we are already over-budget on pool cleaning. Finally, if you are a large group taking up tables & chairs for an extended period of time, please be considerate of your neighbors and perhaps give up a chair or two. Others would like to use the pool/spa as well.
Cays Park:
Proposed changes to the Cays Park are being put back into play by the City. While the master plan is being developed, current changes are minor. Tennis courts will be resurfaced, dedicated pickleball courts will soon be available, and the basketball court will remain. The City has informed us that workshops will be conducted to gather feedback for revised Cays Park Master Plan proposals. No dates set as of yet, but expect to hear more later in the year.
Annual Meeting:
The annual HOA Board of Directors meeting is September 1, 2022 - 5:00pm at the Loews hotel. Registration will open at 4:30pm and dinner will follow the meeting at a poolside venue. Self-parking is $5, and valet is $10. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

My email is dirportroyale@cchoa.org , and I’m happy to hear from you directly. Additionally, check out the HOA website for information & updates. If you haven’t already secured a login ID and password from the HOA, I recommend that you do so.

Please stay well,

Becki Lock
