Port Royale: Spring 2020

Hello Neighbors,

I hope everyone is hanging in there and staying healthy during the current health pandemic. To that end, I know there may be people in Port Royale that are at risk and may be reluctant to venture out to do errands or go to the grocery store. Or, perhaps you know of a neighbor or family member that needs help? I’ve had a number of incredible people in the neighborhood reach out to volunteer their time. So, if you or someone you know needs help, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I love Port Royale!

Updates:

Clubhouse:
Renovation is nearing completion on the Port Royale/Mardi Gras Village Club House. The kitchen and bathrooms have been completely gutted and updated. Entirely new countertops, cabinets, sinks, lighting, tiles and a window have been installed. Icing on the cake, the entire clubhouse has received a fresh coat of paint. I’m sure it is not a surprise to any of you who have attempted your own home renovations, but we fell a little behind on the construction schedule. The good news is that final touches should be nearly complete by the time you read this, with the exception of the last bathroom which will be done shortly (we renovated one at a time so as not to inconvenience anyone). We are hoping for a neighborhood gathering to celebrate our new clubhouse sometime soon. Unfortunately, current events suggest it is prudent to hold off for a little while.

Landscaping:
We continue to work with Park West to refresh and revitalize the landscaping in our common areas. Progress is being made around the neighborhood, and I’m hoping you’ve noticed the flowers, plants, and mulch that are now occupying what used to be areas of dirt. Unfortunately, the winter storms and cold weather wreaked havoc on some of the new plantings. I’m working with the landscaping team to make sure the plantings that didn’t survive have either been replaced or they are on the list to be replaced. It would be a great help if those of you with dogs could try to avoid “watering” the plants and flowers as that is leading to some of the browning and dying of the landscape beds. I’m learning the hard way that this is an ongoing (and frustrating!) process, so I appreciate your patience as we utilize the remaining budget to beautify Port Royale. Up next, a refresh of the Port Royale entrance!

Cays Park:
Proposed changes to the Cays Park Master Plan continue to evolve. The city appears focused on demands from organized sports leagues and our park plays a role in the potential solution. Perhaps you’ve noticed that lacrosse and rugby are now being practiced in Cays Park? I honestly don’t know if that is a short-term fix or a longer-term vision. However, I can tell you that if you have an opinion on how you’d like to see the entire park utilized, now is the time to speak up! Your HOA board has submitted a letter to Mayor Bailey and the members of the Coronado City Council requesting continued dialogue and input as the process is being worked through. Final workshops are being organized by the city so that they can present options to us residents. I will let you know the dates of the meetings as soon as I receive them. Rumors are flying so the best way to be informed is to attend the workshops or contact your city representatives.

The next HOA Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for March 26th, 2pm in the Grand Caribe room. It is open to everyone, please feel free to attend.

Please stay well,

Becki Lock
