Dear Coronado Cays Homeowners and Residents,
Silver Strand Half Marathon: Residents, please be aware that the Silver Strand Half Marathon is on November 10, 2024. Runners, see you out there! Drivers, be prepared for some lane detours on the Strand that morning.
Did you know that Invasive Aedes Mosquitos are ‘container breeders’! Dumping out standing water and keeping containers dry is the easiest way to control mosquitoes around your home. Lots of great tips on the San Diego County Vector Control Program webpage: SDFightTheBite.com
Sewage Crisis: The Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (part of the CDC) is working with the County of San Diego conducting a survey of residents about health concerns and impacts from exposure to sewage and pollution in the Tijuana River Valley and frequently contaminated beaches. If you would like to take the online survey, you will find a QR Code hereor you can take the survey from this link. This survey will be open until November 22, 2024.
Live entertainment at the Loew’s Hotel: Mindi Abair’s Wine and Jazz New Year’s Eve celebration of food, wine and Jazz will be at the Loews Resort on December 29, 30 and 31! Additional information and tickets available here.
Coronado Rotary Music Competition: This competition is open to high school students who live in Coronado or attend school in Coronado (or both). Information on how to enter your video submission is available here. The deadline to enter is December 13th, 2024.
Boaters: Did you know that all motorized vessel operators aged 60 and younger are required to complete a boating safety course and obtain a California Boater Card. And, starting in 2025, the over-60 crowd will need their Boater Card as well. To apply for your California Boater Card, you will need to pay $10 and take an online boating safety course such as the Boat U.S. Foundation Class for California (free, it will take a few hours). You should get your card in less than a week and you can do the whole process from your computer!
Update from the City of Coronado: The City Manager’s Update included some promising information on the South Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion (more details are in the InternationalBoundary and Water Commission press release). Additionally, the Coronado Island Film Festival is kicking off its 9th season and the festivities run from November 6-10. And, the City’s Recreation Department is taking registrations for the Thanksgiving Holiday Camp.
Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting: The Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting is on December 6th, starting at 6:00 PM.

Hotel Del “All That Jazz” Lightshow Spectacular: The grove of towering Norfolk Island Pines on the Funders Lawn of the Hotel Del is the scene of a dynamic light show set to lively holiday jazz music. This free show takes place every 30 minutes from 5 to 9 pm nightly from November 21 through January 5.
11th Annual Coronado Turkey Trot: Runners (and joggers and walkers)! The Coronado Turkey Trot is November 28th, a good time to burn some calories before the big feast that day.
Annual FOCUS Holiday Boutique: Come shop from 40+ booths offering beautiful shopping opportunities. November 16th 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club. Advanced tickets are available here.
Landscape Maintenance: Work continues on lawn scalping, dethatching, aerating, and overseeding. This process encourages uniform growth, improves watering efficiency and prevents diseases that can harm the grass over winter. While this is very time consuming, the landscape crew will be catching up on normal weeding, trimming, and detailing after the lawns are finished.
The trimming of deciduous and coral trees was completed in Mardi Gras on October 18th. Antigua Fan Palm trimming will begin on November 15th.
Maintenance Projects: Completed projects since my last newsletter include:
- Dock piling replacements in Jamaica Village
- Montego Parking Structure Rebuild has started
