Dear Coronado Cays Homeowners and Residents,

Congratulations to Jamaica Village!

Exciting news for our community! The homeowners of Jamaica Village have come together to make a positive impact on the environment by voting in favor of a Village-wide solar project. The votes were officially counted at the February Board meeting, and we are thrilled to announce that the village has chosen to move forward with a Clubhouse solar project. This initiative will significantly offset the electricity usage in Jamaica Village common areas, contributing to a greener, more sustainable community. Thank you to all the homeowners who participated in this decision!

Speaking of great environmental impact, the Port of San Diego is hosting a workshop on Thursday, March 13 at 5 pm at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club to seek input on potential nature-based coastal resilience strategies to stabilize the eastern shoreline of Grand Caribe Shoreline Park, maintain public access, and preserve existing habitat.

Upcoming Household Hazardous Waste Collection.  Did you know that the City of Coronado collects Household Hazardous Waste generally on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Public Services Facility located at 101 B Avenue?  This is a great (and free) opportunity to clean out your old paint cans, automobile fluids, and electronic waste.

Landscape Maintenance Update
With only 1.34 inches of rainfall recorded this season—just 18% of normal—we’re keeping a close eye on San Diego’s dry conditions. When the rain does come, we are managing our irrigation system to minimize expense and water usage. Currently, our turf areas are looking really green, and the front entrance/village monuments are popping with color.

Tree Trimming Highlights:

In late January, Greenleaf trimmed 128 Mexican Fan Palms and 10 Queen Palms in Jamaica Village.

The following week, lacing was completed on 24 trees, including Junipers, Arbutus, Magnolias, and a Bottlebrush tree.

More recently, they tackled 260 Common Area Fan Palms and 54 Queen Palms.

Upcoming Trimming Schedule:

Bahama Village (March 17–20): 33 Mexican Fan Palms, 36 Queen Palms, and various other species.

Jamaica Village (March 24–25): 17 trees, including Magnolias, Arbutus, and Orchid Trees.

Green Turtle Village (Late March–Early April): 18 Mexican Fan Palms and 3 Queen Palms.

Landscape Enhancements:
Jamaica and Montego Villages embraced a tropical look with new Birds of Paradise, radiation lantana, and river rock installations.

Fresh mulch now enhances Port Royale, Bahama Village, Kingston, and Green Turtle, helping retain soil moisture and prevent weeds.

Bahama Village saw succulent makeovers, including mixed succulents in poolside pots.

The entrance kiosk received vibrant calendula ground color (yellow and orange daisy looking flowers) and geraniums for the blue pots, while Blue Anchor enhanced their monument with calendula.

Antigua Village added geraniums along their front wall and Kingston Court added hawthorn shrubs, gazania ground cover, and lantana to fill in bare areas.

Montego introduced blue chalk sticks and orange crotons, while Green Turtle underwent a major thinning of Birds of Paradise and installed additional gazania ground cover in the entrance median.

Whiteflies remain a challenge, but we’re actively managing the situation while continuing winter maintenance on geraniums and lilies.
