Coronado Cays Living Magazine - January Issue

1/1/2020
Welcome to 2020!

I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and is ready for an exciting New Year in the Cays. I was thinking back 20 years to a New Years’ Eve party on our driveway/in our garage. Neighbors and friends gathered to celebrate and wonder what would happen at midnight with the threat of Y2K hanging over the world. As midnight struck, someone turned out the lights and everyone gasped! Back came on the lights and everyone laughed. Nothing happened with Y2K and the party continued. Speaking of looking back, I want to share a few of the CCHOA Board and Staff accomplishments in my first eight months as General Manager. These achievements are the result of a collaborative effort between the City, Board of Directors, Staff, and residents and are indicative of what we can do when we work together toward a common goal.

  • Resolved a long-standing issue concerning the allowable specifications for rear decks in the Village Townhouse section of the Coronado Cays Specific Plan (namely Bahama Village) to enable owners to upgrade rear decks and permit existing decks without additional fees
  • Revived a stalled process to contract for and received build permit approval to ultimately install the Trinidad fire line replacement for their Village docks
  • Removed/minimized sidewalk trip hazards in all villages, HOA complex, and on HOA docks
  • Enhanced the appearance of the Cays’ landscaping through proactive engagement with Park West. Completed numerous landscape upgrades throughout the Cays. Efforts continuing
  • Planned and executed a family-oriented Cays 50th Anniversary Celebration while collaborating with the City, volunteers, and vendors to highlight some of our talented residents and raise funds for the Silver Strand PTO
Looking forward to 2020, the Board and Staff have approved various goals for the HOA. Some of these are meant to be accomplished in the 2019-2020 fiscal year ending on June 30th and others are more long-term.

  • Establish a Port Lease Renewal Committee and develop a strategy and proposal for renewing the Cays’ lease that expires in 2034
  • Develop CCHOA Mission Values, Strategic Priorities, and Governing Principles
  • Establish a Landscape/Water Advisory Committee and develop a Cays Master Water Use Plan and plant palette
  • Conduct an onsite reserve analysis and refine the HOA Reserve Plan
  • Improve communications with Cays owners and residents
  • Revise the HOA budget process to allow more input from Directors, Finance Committee, and community
  • Execute scheduled projects for 2019-2020 per the Reserve Plan

Good neighbor tip: Keep your trees, vines, and plants trimmed off your lot line, so they do not grow into your neighbor’s yard or the common area. This will prevent your trees, vines and plants from becoming an added burden on your neighbor or the HOA landscaping team. Trim early and often and don’t wait for someone to complain. Walk around the outside of your property, if possible, and inspect.
